How Do I Find a Good Meta Ads Freelancer?

For many companies, Facebook and Instagram have become one of the most important marketing channels. At the same time, the market is full of providers who write “social media marketing” on their website – with very varying quality. Whether agency or freelancer

So the decisive question is not: whether you should hire someone for your Meta Ads, but: how do you find a trustworthy partner for your paid social campaigns?

The question actually contains 2 questions:

This article helps you separate the wheat from the chaff.

I’ll also show you where to find them.

Where Do You Find a Good Meta Ads Freelancer?

These are the most common options:

Freelance platforms are the most common way to find suitable specialists.

The advantage: you can define exactly in advance what you are looking for.

Disadvantages:

  • Freelancers have to pay the platform a 10–20% commission for a successful match. This commission is usually added on top of the actual hourly rates.

  • You don’t know the freelancer and have to rely on their references on the platform.

  • You get a skewed view: first you are shown the freelancers who are most active on the platform or who have boosted their profile. Not necessarily the ones best suited for your job.

So you pay less if you search directly.

You can simply search for a suitable expert on Google, ChatGPT, or elsewhere.

The advantage: you can decide completely freely whom you want to work with.

Disadvantages:

  • The research takes a long time and you first have to contact all freelancers personally.

  • Not everyone has their own website.

  • You find first those who have invested the most in their website and SEO. Not necessarily the ones best suited for your job.

You can also search via social media.

Either you search for them actively or you put out a call.

On LinkedIn, this is very common.

The advantage: the research is easier.

Disadvantages:

  • You only find those who are present on the platform. Unless they are recommended by third parties.

  • The ones who get in touch with you first are the loudest. Not necessarily the ones best suited for your job.

Another practical option is to search via the Freelancer Team. An association of over 170 specialists who support each other.

The advantage: you can be sure that the members are the best in their field.

Disadvantages:

  • You only get suggestions from the Freelancer Team.

  • You might like the Freelancer Team so much that you only want to work with it from now on.

Here you can find Meta Ads freelancers from the Freelancer Team.

The royal road of research. It’s always best to choose someone that somebody else has already worked with.

The research is easier – there is already a basis of trust.

It’s always advisable to first look into your own network.

All options have advantages and disadvantages.

The research is always an effort – but depending on where you search, the effort is worth it less or more.

Of course, you can also just work with me:

What Should You Look For When Choosing?

A first warning sign is always service providers who offer everything:

  • Meta Ads

  • Google Ads

  • SEO

  • Web design

Meta Ads are complex enough to be a field of their own. A professional focuses on one or a few channels and knows them in depth.

Especially given the speed at which Meta throws out updates.

The question you should ask:

“What percentage of your work is really Meta Ads?”

If the answer is vague, they are usually not a specialist.

Many service providers sell themselves through:

  • Social media reach

  • personal brand

  • strong opinions

  • sweeping statements

  • Bro marketing

  • Hype

That’s not bad per se – but it says nothing about operational quality.

What really counts is:

  • concrete and relevant case studies. These are the most tangible proof of good work

  • Good references. Who really stands up and says: I find this person good?

Pay attention: Good experts listen to you first, in order to understand your business better. And they don’t just talk about themselves. That brings us to the next point:

If someone immediately tells you in the first meeting what you “have to” do without understanding your business, caution is advised.

Professional campaign optimization doesn’t start in the Ads Manager, but with questions like:

  • Who is your target audience really?

  • What does your sales process look like?

  • Which conversion makes economic sense?

  • What data already exists?

  • Is tracking already set up?

  • Does the cookie banner work?

  • What were your previous results?

  • What are your USPs?

A good service provider thinks like an entrepreneur, not just campaign by campaign.

“We’ll scale you to €100,000 in monthly revenue in 30 days”

“Guaranteed leads”

“ROAS x10”

Statements like these sound good – but are mostly dubious.

Meta Ads is an auction system. Good results depend on many factors:

  • Offer

  • Market

  • Competition

  • Creatives

  • Website

  • Tracking

  • Budget

A specialist:

  • makes no unrealistic guarantees

  • explains opportunities, but also risks

  • sets realistic expectations

  • communicates clearly what is controllable – and what is not

Google Data Studio Reporting

In addition, they always provide you with transparent reporting that lets you track all campaign results – every day.

Well suited for this are Google Data Studio reports. You can get them from me as part of my Meta Ads management.

One of the biggest advantages of a freelancer over an agency:

The direct collaboration.

For you, that means:

  • no handovers to juniors

  • no internal approval loops

  • faster decisions

  • shorter response times

Especially with performance campaigns, this closeness is a clear competitive advantage.

Order-takers only optimize individual campaigns. Strategic partners think in systems:

  • clean account structure

  • consistent tracking

  • clear learning phases

  • scalable setups

  • clean budget logic

The goal is not the short-term success of an ad, but the continuous improvement of the entire account over months.

Very cheap offers are rarely efficient. Very expensive offers are not automatically better.

More important than the hourly rate is:

  • How much responsibility is taken on?

  • How great is the experience?

  • How well do they understand your business model?

A good Meta Ads freelancer saves you money in the end because they avoid mistakes, detours, and inefficient tests.

A professional can prove their successful work. Not with anonymous screenshots or numbers taken out of context, but with traceable references and real testimonials.

It’s less about big brand names than about clear statements:

  • What was the starting situation?

  • What was concretely done?

  • Which results were achieved?

References are incredibly valuable because clients here vouch for someone publicly with their own name and in their own words. In the best case, they are stored on a platform that is publicly accessible and requires creating a user account. That increases the trust value.

In my opinion, Google and LinkedIn are the most trustworthy sources for references and testimonials.

Transparent case studies are even more valuable. Here the work was so successful that the freelancer is allowed to use the project publicly for their personal branding.

They usually include a short description of the client company and the industry, an outline of the work process of the project, and finally a list of the results.

You can find my references here on Google and on LinkedIn.

Here you can find my case studies:

No good freelancer works in isolation. A good network of designers,

developers, copywriters or tracking specialists is real added value for you as a company.

An experienced Meta Ads freelancer knows:

  • when specialist knowledge is needed

  • where to get support from

  • and when external expertise makes more sense than half-knowledge of their own

That prevents inefficient workarounds and ensures your campaigns don’t fail on side issues such as creatives, landing pages, or tracking.

That’s why I’m glad to be able to rely on my network. Among others, it includes:

Good results don’t come from trial and error alone. They are based on foundations from marketing, psychology, statistics and business administration.

A sound education – whether academic or through high-quality further training – ensures that decisions are made in a structured way:

  • Target audiences are analyzed cleanly

  • Hypotheses are tested systematically

  • Results are interpreted correctly

That’s what distinguishes strategic work from mere “trying things out” in the Ads Manager.

I can also draw on theoretical knowledge from my studies:

  • Master’s in International Marketing at TH Nürnberg

  • Bachelor’s in business administration with a focus on marketing at TH Nürnberg

Certificates are no guarantee for good results – but they are an important quality signal. Especially in the Meta ecosystem, they show that a freelancer engages with the platform in a structured way and stays up to date.

These include above all the Meta Blueprint certifications:

  • Meta Certified Media Buying Professional

  • Meta Certified Media Planning Professional

These certificates confirm knowledge in areas such as campaign structure, targeting, budgeting, tracking, and optimization.

Also awards, rankings, or official partner programs (e.g., Meta Business Partner, tool partners such as Brevo, HubSpot, etc.) can be an indication that a freelancer regularly works at a professional level.

What matters here is not the sheer number of logos but relevance: certificates and awards should fit the actual performance and specialization – and be reflected in practice.

Here is an overview of my certificates and awards:

  • Meta Certified Media Buying Professional

  • Meta Certified Media Planning Professional

  • Brevo Agency Partner

  • EPMA Finalist 2024 with MONSOON Agency

Freelancer, Agency, or Freelancer Team?

Do you need a freelancer at all, or is an agency better suited?

Whether an agency, a freelancer, or a freelancer team is the right choice depends mainly on your project and your requirements.

Agencies often offer a broad range of services and are particularly suitable for extensive marketing projects with several disciplines.

A specialized Meta Ads freelancer, on the other hand, scores with direct communication, short decision paths, and high expertise in their field.

A third option is a freelancer team. You work with a fixed contact person but at the same time benefit from the know-how of various specialists. This lets you combine the flexibility of a freelancer with the competencies of a larger team.

You can find out which model fits your company best in my detailed comparison “Meta Ads Agency or Freelancer?”.

Conclusion: How to Recognize a Good Meta Ads Freelancer

A good Meta Ads freelancer:

  • is clearly specialized

  • works data-driven with reports

  • communicates transparently

  • thinks like an entrepreneur

  • doesn’t promise miracles

  • takes on responsibility

  • has good references and testimonials

  • has a strong network

  • and an appropriate education

If these points are met, a Meta Ads freelancer is the most efficient solution for many companies between going it alone and an agency.
